Things we thought we never should wear (AGAIN)

Fashion is about style. About trends. About expressing ourselves. But fashion is also about making yourself a liar. How often have you said: I will never ever wear that in my life again?! And how often have you caught yourself wearing it a few seasons later? Well, let’s be honest; all the time! Every season, I guess. Leather pants, clogs, pointy shoulders, leggings: we all threw it away and then bought it again! Damn, we are so stupid!

Dutch Fashion (R)Evolution

© Claes Iversen by Ralph Lemarechal

Digitalista K. wrote an article about the Dutch fashion ( R ) Evolution for ModaCYCLE. ‘At the moment, departing from what we have seen during the Amsterdam International Fashionweek, we could classify our Dutch designers in three different categories: the classicists, the modernists and the rebels.’ Find out who they are? One more time…blogging live from the Ilja Visser show

Ilja Visser Ready to Fish: Ms Forrester

Ilja Visser is also a well established Dutch designer. Last season she presented a SMART for which she designed the in- and exterior, and tonight (right this minute) we’re at her latest show from the Ready to Fish collection.

The theme is Mrs Forrester, based on a mysterious woman who is close to nature, looking for a sprinkle of magic. Might she be a witch? That explains the high hats!

Hit or Miss? The comeback of the dungarees…

Dungarees at H&M

H&M has a pair of leather and flowerprint  dungarees in the Spring collection, and we sort of like them. Even if it’s not the most flattering thing to wear for a woman.

Dungarees used to be worn by feminists, and are called a ‘tuinbroek’ in Dutch (translate: garden pants). It actually says enough about its purpose, a great outfit for when you’re gardening!

AIFW: Hans Ubbink @ Paradiso

The 'gals' frontrow at Hans Ubbink

It’s not that fashionable being a Dutch fashionista. Especially when your name is Digitalista E./ Little Miss Jacobs (her nick name), who had to ride on her bike all the way to the centre of Amsterdam with her designer heels, little black dress and cute leopard coat on. And it was almost raining! But lucky her: the front row moment at the fashion show of Hans Ubbink made her day!

Claes Iversen Fashion Show AW10

Back in the days, when I was a little girl, I stayed home alone for the first time and I invited my best friend to come watch a movie. It was Romy’s and Michelle’s High School reunion. The movie was about two girls who wanted to impress their old classmates by telling them that they invented post-it’s. As a 12 year old girl I thought it was a brilliant idea. But nowadays, 11 years later, I think making fashion out of post-it’s is even more brilliant! Especially if Holland’s most talented designer Claes Iversen is giving us his vision on that little piece of yellow paper…
