He is celebrating 10 year-career as a couturier already, and today again, Jan Tamimiau showed his beautiful pieces during Paris Couture Week. A collection inspired by something as natural as an orchid, but enhanced with a touch of technology.
The orchid represents a variety of characters; sometimes strong and abundant, sometimes delicate and modest, but always regal. The flower was just one of the inspiring elements. Two others play a major role at the core of this collection. One is a picture of Taminiau’s grandmother in the fourties. A sophisticated lady, yet dressed in a sturdy motor jacket, ready to conquer the world. The other is an old Indian scarf which Taminiau finds touching because of its simple embroideries.
Instead of a traditional catwalkshow, Taminiau choose a personal and intimate salon presentation, embarking the spectators on a journey through the designer’s fascinations like old craft techniques and how these now all come together in a modern couture collection.
Part of this journey is an application developed by THEY and tech start-up SWIPE which enables to zoom in and see the tiniest details of a creation with a smartphone or tablet. Blending traditional craftmanship with modern technology.
