Trick or treat? Well, I prefer a treat but unfortunately Amsterdam tricked me into Halloween. Don’t get me wrong, I take every excuse for a good party, but things like Halloween and the Dutch carnaval just aren’t for me. Yet, the American holiday has spread out like wildfire, because in Amsterdam there’s no escaping Halloween this year.
There are many things on the menu for October 31st. Celebrate Halloween in Amsterdam while parading through the canals with the Amsterdam Halloween Parade. This year’s theme is immortal icons and everlasting fame. And don’t forget about the after-party at the Westergasterrein. But are you really in for a hysterical night? Get your ass to Mokum’s Halloween Story, a scary spectacle at Het Sieraad. With its cool theme, Mexican Halloween Dia de los Muertos, and their three different stages, I finally found myself excited about Halloween.
Obviously the first questions that pops up in my mind is ‘What to wear?’. I definitely don’t go all out – I’m sorry for being such a party pooper – but I also don’t want to be that girl who’s too cool for school, or in this case Halloween. I searched the net for some inspiration and scary gadgets. The biggest help when it comes to last-minute party props is, of course, H&M. I found the greatest Mexican dress. And what colour is better for some stylish details than vampire red, like these Topshop boots and Hang-up MAC lipstick (they also have great Halloween make-up inspiration). Add a little dramatic twist with a bridal bouquet headband and voila, there’s your Halloween outfit.
Spread your wings with this sparkly H&M accessory and steel the show on October 31st. Are you really last-minute with your Halloween costume and you’ve got no inspiration whatsoever? Lift your pug addiction to the next level with this epic mask of Urban Outfitters. Get crazy and make this Halloween one to always remember.
