The turtleneck is an item with a history. For centuries already it has been worn by men and since the late 50s women also started to adopt the turtleneck. Men wanted to rebel against formal wear, so they decided to replace their ties with turtlenecks.

Well, we feminists love to be rebellious as well, so it didn’t take long before women were wearing the polo neck. Especially preppy students loved this item, but later on the turtleneck became more significant for the classy and intellectual people.

You could say, the turtleneck has made its comeback. It’s not Steve Jobs who has inspired us fashionistas to wear this item again, but a combination of Audrey Hepburn, the Minimalistic trend and the winter chill made us -once again- a fan of the beloved turtleneck.

My fanaticism started last summer with the crop top. I was, and still am a huge lover of this item. A few months ago I found the perfect crop top with a turtle neck. As I was wearing this item, I noticed the top really accentuated my cheekbones and made me look quite slim and tall. This turtleneck really works for me! So, the enthusiastic person that I am, I became obsessed and I started seeing turtlenecks everywhere. And indeed, they are everywhere! It’s a major trend! Lots of turtleneck sweaters and, thank god, dresses. These are so classy and very easy to combine. Just put on a dark red lipstick and if you feel like it, a statement necklace.

Even if you’d wear a bright turtleneck sweater, like this one by Proenza Schouler, Your look would still be clean and simple. A perfect item if you ask me! How do you feel about this trend?
