Years ago, when I first began researching organic and natural skincare, John Masters Organics was one of the first companies I discovered – and since then, it has remained a staple in my skincare regime.
“I believe that synthetics have a place, but not on the body,” says JMO founder John Masters. “Why use harsh chemicals in shampoos, styling gels, skin moisturizers and soaps? They were created as cheap substitutes for organic compounds that do a better job.”
A famous American hairdresser in the 1970s, Masters became fascinated with organic products and realized the serious health risks he was facing by inhaling harsh salon chemicals every day. Determined to make a difference, he quit his salon job and starting developing his own organic-based haircare company. In 1994, he opened the first John Masters Organics salon in SoHo, New York, where there was a strict rule in place: no ammonia, chemicals, toxic perms or nail services were allowed.
Masters has since developed numerous paraben-free, organic hair and skincare collections and has a number of high-profile clients: Zooey Deschanel, Rachel McAdams, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Kristin David and Alicia Silverstone, to name a few!
All products are 70-100% organic, biodegradable and harvested in the USA when possible; they also contain cold-pressed plant oil (heat distilling kills the therapeutic properties of the plant) and are made without artificial colours, fragrances or filters.
Want to jump on board the JMO bandwagon? The hair products are a great way to begin; try the Honey & Hibiscus Shampoo or the Rosemary and Peppermint Detangler – both are to die for! The Sea Mist Sea Salt Spray with Lavender is also fantastic for giving your hair that day-at-the-beach appeal.
For skin, the Bearberry Skin Balancing Face Wash is a best-seller and helps fight oil production (great for greasy t-zones). The Pomegranate Facial Nourishing Oil is also a must-have for dry skin as it contains moisture-rich olive oil and anti-inflammatory rosewood oil.
