Thursday Treat: Cookin’ it with Marley Spoon

MarleySpoon_unboxing1A new foodbox has found its way to the Netherlands: Marley Spoon. It has its origin in our neighboring country Germany, where two guys decided it was time to bring ‘cooking back to the kitchen’.

According to Marley Spoon: “Cooking amazing dishes with fresh ingredients should be a substantial part of our lives. Especially at busy times when every minute becomes ever so valuable.” We couldn’t agree more on that.

To experience the foodbox in all its glory, we were invited to cook with it and enjoy what we’ve cooked as a group. So a group of foodies and journalists gathered at the kitchen of cookery shop Dille & Kamille and cooked with a box of choice.

Marley Spoon works with chefs who weekly put together a new and inspiring recipe with fresh, high quality ingredients. In each country in which the company is active (Germany, UK, The Netherlands), they have partnerships with local producers, such as Lindenhoff from Baambrugge for NL; a biological farm where they produce meat and dairy and grow vegetables.

We had 4 recipes to choose from: Pork tenderloin with Cape Malay curry and a salad of lentils and pears, Seabass with a mash of parsnip and a salad of fennel with an orange dressing, Exotic Pad Thai with crispy romanesco and a crunchy peanut sauce, and Oriental lamb with with sweet dates and spicy couscous.

I chose the latter because one of the ingredients was sweet potato which I was eager to prepare (never cooked it before). I was also curious about the possibility to prepare a stew in relatively short time (4o minutes!).

When following the recipe step by step (the 6 steps are illustrated with photographs on the back of the recipe card) it is so easy! Even if you’re not an experienced cook. The odds of ruining your dinner are minimal. You have the correctly portioned ingredients and clear visual explanation at hand.

I actually love cooking, but I often have a lack of inspiration and I prefer to cook for others than myself. Marley Spoon is the perfect solution for that, as they also encourage social dining.

Go and have your Marley Spoon foodbox and give it a try! You won’t be disappointed!
