Tasty Tuesday: Coffee & Coconuts

CoffeeCoconuts_1From the outside you still notice the 20’s Art Deco façade, behind which used to house a theater. Now it’s our capital’s new hyped hotspot: Coffee and Coconuts.

That sounds a tad tropical, and yes they serve coconuts, but it is foremost a relaxing oase in the midst of the busy Ceintuurbaan and buzzing ‘de Pijp’ area. Part of the calming atmosphere is created by the basic furniture -comfy couches, beanbags, linen pillows, rope, natural wood- and the green hanging plants. The owners -former Hutspot and beachclub Tijn Akersloot- partnered with Atelier Sukha for the interior decoration.

Coffee & Coconuts is a huge venue spread over three levels. We settled on the upper level and just hung there for hours sipping on our healthy juices, snacking edamame beans (my friend is on a detox diet) and having entertaining conversations. Some bits of it have probably been captured by the cute guy who sat at the other end of the table working on his laptop (hopefully he isn’t using any of the material for a book in the making ;))….Coffee & Coconuts is a good place to sit down and work, as they open at 7 am from Monday to Friday, and at 8 am in the weekends.

The staff was very friendly despite the Saturday busyness, which grants them points on the level of hospitality. We hope they keep up the quality as we plan on chilling here more frequently -from breakfast to dinner. Make sure you drop by too for a well deserved time out from the city’s ungoing energy whilst enjoying some of their tasty homemade food. We promise you book-worthy anecdotes if you sit at our table ;)
