Victoria Tsai, founder of TATCHA, was interested in developing a beauty brand and was traveling through Asia when she discovered a 200-year-old beauty manuscript. The manuscript highlighted geishas’ daily regimens and the rituals used to achieve their flawless skin. Inspired, Tsai founded TATCHA based on these ancient rituals combined with the help of modern science.
TATCHA works closely with Japanese scholars and scientists to develop their products based on core ingredients of green tea, rice bran and algae; all have been used since ancient times in Eastern medicine and skincare. TATCHA has combined these ingredients to create a bioactive complex called HADASEI-3, which moisturizes, enhances skin’s barrier protection, improves elasticity and protects against free radicals.
Geishas recognized that to maintain perfect skin, you need to protect it from environmental stresses and allow skin to heal and balance itself. While many Western skincare products are based on stripping skin, TATCHA focuses on purifying and protecting the skin you have to bring it back to its original state.
For example, the Camellia Cleansing Oil uses rice bran oils to gently clean and condition skin. TATCHA’s famous Rice Enzyme Powder is a gently exfoliant that turns to foam when you mix it with water; it’s rice and papaya enzymes leave skin polished and bright.
