LV’s new man: Nicholas Ghesquière

Nicolas-Ghesquière-to-LVThe word is out! After months of speculation, Balenciaga’s former Artistic Director Nicholas Ghesquière is officially taking the reins from Marc Jacobs at Louis Vuitton.

Ghesquière’s new position is immediately in effect as he will show his first collection for the French luxury house coming March. About his appointment he says: “Louis Vuitton has always incarnated for me the symbol of ultimate luxury, innovation and exploration,” Ghesquière said. “I am very honored of the mission that I am entrusted with, and proud to join the history of this great maison. We share common values and a vision.”

He faces an interesting challenge, 2014 will be an important year for the LV brand, celebrating its 160 years anniversary. According to WWD, his couture-like approach ‘could help Vuitton in its quest to accrue a more upscale and elite reputation after years of rapid global expansion and a heavy reliance on monogram canvas.’

Will he be able to top Jacobs’ spectacular shows including elevators, escalators and steaming locomotives?
