My Eyelash Extensions by Jenny Gloss

photo 3While false eyelashes have been popular for quite a few years, Holland seems to be behind the times – and finding a credible salon that offers an eyelash extension service has proven a challenge.

Luckily I stumbled upon Jenny Gloss, an Amsterdam-based studio run by aesthetician Jennifer Wijntuin. With nearly 15 years of experience in the industry, Jennifer is not only a professional expert in manicures, pedicures and gel polish, but she also offers eyelash extensions.

Curious and unsure what to expect, I put myself (and my lashes!) to the test. My first concern was safety, but Jennifer reassured me that the glue and lashes are completely safe to apply. The lashes Jennifer uses are synthetic, as opposed to the alternative made of mink fur (a not-so-environmentally-friendly possibility). There are various styles of lashes, from extra thick and curly to thinner and straighter, so Jennifer can select which will suit you best.

Each false lash is attached individually to your natural lash – not your actual skin – so as your own lashes naturally grow out, so too do the synthetic ones. The entire application process takes about 1.5 hours, pending how many lashes you need (I had about 40 per eye). It’s painless, and actually quite relaxing to have a reason to just lie down for an hour, uninterrupted.

Following the big reveal, I was amazed at how natural the lashes look. They are longer, fuller, and it appears as though I have the most fantastic coat of mascara on them. They aren’t sticky, bulky or heavy; I was worried they would “get in the way,” but I hardly notice them!

On the other hand, my friends most definitely did notice them. The next day, everyone commented on how bright my eyes looked – and they were all impressed by how natural the lashes appear.

In about 4-6 weeks, the false lashes will fall along with your natural lashes. As a result, refills are necessary about once every month, pending how fast your hair grows. Maintenance is super easy, as Jennifer sends every client home with a special brush to comb the lashes out. Otherwise, there’s no need to use mascara, as the lashes look great enough on their own!

I can’t imagine how fantastic it will be to have the lashes while on holidays, when you’re in the mood for wearing less makeup and not fussing about mascara. Since getting the lashes, it has been awesome to “get up and go” with just a swipe of blush and lipgloss.

Hello I am interested in having fake eye lashes applied ! I’ve never have done it before (only the fake ones you apply for a few hours in the day). Can you please tell how long they last for? Do I need to retouched them?
If yes, how many times per week? Also I am aware the price is 65€ is that correct? Thank you!

      Hi Carina,

Fake lashes or lash extensions applied by a professional should last for at least a month before they gradually fall out. Prices differ, but €65 is average. Make sure you go to a real pro as the lashes are of better quality and last longer after application.
Lydia has tested two salons where they apply fake lashes and was happy with the results of both.
