Valentine tip: Old Dutch Charm @ Swaenenvecht

Looking for a short stay for Valentine? Then here’s the perfect tip for some Dutch romance as it was back in the days.

This cute Bed & Breakfast in an authentic listed building from the 17th century, located near the castle of Zuylen, not far from Utrecht, alongside the river Vecht. The Swaenenvecht Inn is small scale and charming, and includes two special double rooms, a single room and five large suites. Each room is tastefully decorated in a historical setting, mixed with modern art and contemporary comfort.

The rooms were completely renovated in 2012 and comprise a bathroom with modern facilities, and all have different interior decoration with a touch of antique British country style. The suites consist of a bedroom and cosy living area, and are all named after family members of the author Belle van Zuylen (1740-1805) who lived in the adjacent castle in the 18th century.

The owner of Swaenenvecht is a passionate collector of art, antique and curiosities, resulting in an eclectic mix of styles and cultures popping their nose in unexpected nooks, and of which you’ll never get bored with.

In addition to the surprising surroundings, the neighboor restaurant ‘Belle’ offers tasty French cuisine for a romantic dinner. Complete arrangements can be provided in combination with a stay at Swaenenvecht.

Swaenenvecht is open all year round, and hosted by Lilian Stringa. Prices vary from €150,- for the smallest room, to €295,- for the largest suite.
