Martinhal Resort Portugal: The Food

If you are a fan of fresh fish and seafood, then the Algarvan local cuisine will be a feast for your tastebuds. The restaurants at the Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel serve tasty and fresh local specialties.

From breakfast, to lunch, to dinner, eating was something we looked forward to each day. Was it the ocean air that made us hungry? Or just the fact that our daily menus remained a surprise until seated at our table?

The Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel has three restaurants to choose from: O Terraço for fine wining and dining, As Dunas where the freshest fish and seafood can be savoured, and Os Gambozinos featuring Italian inspired cuisine and the perfect place for families.

We enjoyed our lunches at As Dunas and the dinners at the O Terraço restaurant.
Each lunch started with fresh bread and ‘couverts’. These appetizers are typical for the Portuguese, and mainly consist of olives, the soft cillinder shaped ‘queijo Rabaçal’ cheese and a pickled vegetable. Then followed by three courses with a fish dish or a salad as a main course. We must say that having a good lunch helps you build up the energy for outdoor activities during the day.

The dinners also consisted of several courses, and can be accompanied by a compelling wine arrangement. Very nice with the heavier main courses such as the (most delicious) wild boar we had, and the veal tenderloin. Portuguese wines have a pronounced taste, which is due to the combination of the grapes, soil and maturation process.

Of course let’s not forget the Portuguese pastry skills, as they were noticeable in the desserts. Carob fondant with fresh fruit, Tiramisu or orange roll; it all tasted great. The staff surely knew how to indulge our sweet tooth with the pasteis de nata (at breakfast and in our room!) and delicious homemade cookies to take home with us.
