Bas Kosters @ AIFW: Jungle Madness

Let’s have some hysterical party on the runway! Birdie, birdie in the sky with Dutch artist Bas Kosters. This designer guarantees some craziness, time after time. This year he surprises us with some mad going tropical birds and ‘bushmen’ you don’t want to bump into when you walk in the jungle. The Digitalistas sat front row.

With the changing head of Bas Kosters in the back and some loud, pump-up-the-volume music mixed by Joost van Bellen, the runway wasn’t a good place for little children. They would definitely be scared. But, we – tuff fashionista’s –  loved it. You could feel the energy in the audience. And afterwards, everybody was up to for some good partying. Unfortunately AIFW isn’t a very good place for that. But oké…

Well, let’s say some words about the collection. Imagine a jungle full of animals using speed and other drugs. And translate that into clothes. That is what you get when Bas is designing something. We saw the most bold colors – think baby blue, red, pink, orange –  childish prints of animals and a lot of ‘feather-isch’ accents and accessories like bird beaks and big horns. For our Dutch readers: remember ‘Bulletje’ from ‘De Mini-Playbackshow!’ Note-worthy were also the models. They are never ‘normal’ at Bas Kosters. He uses his own muses . This time we saw a lot of transvestites,  or otherwise, men in women clothes with lots of make up on and long, colorful hair.

The end of the show was amazing. The designer himself gave a performance on the runway with all his models and some crawling ‘bushmen’ around him. Just watch the movie, and you will see what we mean. It was brilliant. It was fashion. It was different than the rest. Finally we could breath…

Ow and before I forget….Digitalista M. definitely need the Bugaboo Cameleon pram customized by Bas Kosters. In case her boyfriend is also reading this blog: ‘No, sweetie, I don’t want kids yet. But you can’t collect baby stuff early enough!’
