ACNE’S TRANSVESTITE, TRANSGENDER AND CROSS-DRESSING COLLECTION

Together with Acne Studios, Luis Venegas Editor in Chief of Candy Magazine has created a collection of three shirts. Working on the idea of a classic western shirt, but playing with detail and proportion, the end result is a fun take on masculine versus feminine. All styles are all offered in silk crepe and Italian denim; the later in two washes, stonewashed and bleached. The shirts are named after one of Luis favourite TV series, Dynasty. The shirt with a dramatic bow at the neck is called “Alexis” as a tribute to Joan Collin’s role. The one with big sleeves reminded Luis of the role Linda Evans played so it’s called “Krystle” and the shirt with ruffles at neck and wrists has the playful personality of Heather’s Locklear role and is called “Sammy Jo.”

‘Luis energy really reminds of the energy we had when we started Acne. He seems to be this endless well of ideas and creativ- ity. It is something that instantly attracted me to him. We share an openness to new ideas and expressions, so to work with him felt natural from the start. I’m in this business to have fun and to enjoy myself, and I feel that Luis is too. This collection is a playful collaboration and a celebration of diversity. It touches on ideas I have always played with when designing for Acne, the tension between male and female and what happens when you shift things around a bit. Jonny Johansson

‘Talking about the specific pieces we’ve created together, I knew frm the very beginning I wanted to play with the idea of add- ing feminine details to a classic denim shirt. I didn’t want the shirts to become “unisex”, in fact I wanted exactly the opposite. I wanted pieces that create a bit of gender confusion… Instead of the unisex statement “For men and women”, I tried to make people feel like “Is this for men or for women?”… Well, is for all the many types of men and women worldwide on 21st Century. Or even simpler, the idea was creating something like tranny shirts for everybody. Something relevant and open-mined.’ This project has been so much fun.’ Luis Venegas

Candy is the first fashion magazine ever completely dedicated to celebrating transvestism, transexuality, cross dressing and androgyny in all its manifestations. The second issue will be published this fall.
