Altuzarra: New York's new kid on the block

Altuzarra S/S 2010

It helps designers to have a sort of fairy godmother.  Alexander Wang can count on Diane von Furstenberg as a mentor. And remember John Galliano in his early days? He had Anna Wintour in his corner.  Now Anna proceeds in her role of monitoring and supporting talented young designers. As we could see in the September Issue, she was very involved in the work of designer Thakoon, and now she has another protégé: Joseph Altuzarra.

A short bio:

Joseph Altuzarra was born and raised in Paris, and after graduating high school, attended Swarthmore College in Philadelphia, where he completed a B.A. in Art and Art History, with a strong focus on fashion and architecture.

After university, Joseph Altuzarra headed to New York’s vibrant fashion industry, where he was hired as a design intern at the Marc Jacobs studio. Joseph then joined the Proenza Schouler team as freelance designer. In October 2006, Riccardo Tisci recruited Joseph as design assistant for Givenchy, where he worked on the ready-to-wear collections, with particular emphasis on tailoring. It was during his time in Paris that Joseph Altuzarra decided to move back to New York and launch his own line.

His Parisian upbringing combined with the New York comfort-chic, leads Altuzarra to a refreshing and very wearable vision on pret-a-porter. We can imagine why this young men was hailed at last New York Fashion Week, and we are very curious about the collection he will be presenting for Fall Winter 2010 coming February.
