Sometimes you wonder what’s left of fashion in fashion photography. Where nudity and sexuality was often presented in an artful way, nowadays it tends to tickle the boundaries of soft porn.
Fashionising.com made us think about that specific topic, when they reported on the Muse photoshoot starring Lindsay Lohan in a steamy threesome, referring to it as: Are threesomes the new black? (brilliant title!)
The photographer of the shoot, Yu Tsai, said he was inspired by the relationship of Kate Moss and Johnny Depp in the nineties (don’t know how close he’s been to the couple, although we can imagine they had, is there anything known about them having threesomes???) We found a picture of Johnny and Kate by Annie Leibovitz that could have been the inspiration for Muse.
We started recalling on earlier photoshoots where the images could be seen as questionable, and sometimes they did, like Calvin Klein’s orgie (it was about jeans wasn’t it?) that was not allowed in the US. And Dutch model Lara Stone isn’t scared to show her intimate bodyparts either. She did so in a 2007 photoshoot with Mario Testino for the French Vogue, repeated that in 2009 for Peter Lindbergh, and had her own threesome with Baptiste Giabiconi for Numero.
There’s nothing wrong with adding a bit of erotica into fashion, we live in a very liberal country and sex sells, but what do you honestly think? Is the relation with fashion still obvious to you in these photoshoots? Or is it turning into erotic art?
