It seems like wax studios are popping up everywhere across Amsterdam these days – but can all be trusted? The latest addition to the mix is LadyWax on the Overtoom, but this wax salon has a different approach to business than the others.
“We opened three months ago, as an answer to all those wax shops where ladies are not treated the way they should be treated,” says founder and owner Huibert Jongenburger, marketing director of LadyWax. “There are long waiting times, no possibility to reserve your own aesthetician, bad hygiene, and bad hospitality.”
So the business at LadyWax is run a little differently. All employees are trained in the same way, so you’re guaranteed to receive the best (and same) treatment at every visit. Plus they work with Lycon, which Jongenburger calls the “crème de la crème” of hair removal waxes thanks to its natural ingredients like bees wax and resins. Originally created in Australia, Lycon wax is now used internationally at top spas and salons in over 57 countries. It can even remove hairs as short as 1mm!
I visited LadyWax to test it for myself, and was so pleased with the wax – for the first time ever, there was no burning afterwards. My aesthetician was super friendly and offered great service, working quickly while sharing tips for post-wax care.
Perhaps the best aspect of LadyWax’s philosophy is its free facial hair removal for young girls. To prevent bullying, girls up to 12 years old who are teased at school due to facial hair can visit the salon for free facial hair removal.
Just three months in, and the salon already has over 750 clients – and growing! Good news for our readers in Den Haag: LadyWax will be opening a second location at Zoutmanstraat 2d in March.
LadyWax is open seven days a week at Overtoom 494, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
